Friday, 14th October 2016, Kuala Lumpur – The 9th Kuala Lumpur Eco Film Fest 2016 (KLEFF) Award Ceremony held on the 14th of October 2016 at Black Box, Publika Shopping Gallery, Solaris Dutamas, celebrated local and international award-winning film makers from across the globe who submitted their films to compete in the film festival. This year, 334 films were submitted from local and international filmmakers. Out of this, the jury committee accepted 140 films which ran for the film competition in eight categories.
3 Malaysian film makers made the country proud as they bagged 3 awards tonight for the Best Public Service Announcement Award, Young Film Maker Award and UNDP x JKR Energy Efficiency Award.
The 9th KLEFF Award Ceremony was held before the opening night of the film screenings and was a full house with attendees that are from the general public, film makers (local and international), representatives of sponsors, partners and also supporters. Rona Mae Lallana and Vic Ong (Women of the Shore: The Hidden Burden of Climate Change) from the Philippines, Farhan Umedaly from Canada (A Last Stand for Lelu), Yeo Kai Wen from Singapore (The Disappearing Hills), Maryo Saputra Sanuddin from Indonesia ( No Haze Without Fire), Kurt Sensenbrenner and Colin Systma (From Mass to the Mountains), Nico Roicke and Herbert Muller (The World of Microfluids), and Samuel Schlaefi from Switzerland (The Climate Changers) were among the international film makers who present at the award ceremony.
The KLEFF team was honoured to have Dato’ Nadzri bin Yahaya, Deputy Secretary General of the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment; Ir Gopal Narian Kutty (JMW, AMN), the National Project Director of BSEEP Malaysia and the Director of Environment and Energy Efficiency Department on Public Work Department; Asfaazam Kasbani, Assistant Resident Representative from United Nations Development Programme; and Yasmin Rasyid, Honorary Advisor of KLEFF, as the Guests of Honor for the award ceremony.
Dato’ Nadzri Yahaya presented the Special Jury Award, Best Public Service Announcement Award and Best Feature Film/Full Length Documentary Award to the proud winners. Meanwhile, the UNDPxJKR Energy Efficiency Award, Best Short Documentary Award and Best Short Film Award were presented by Ir Gopal Narian Kutty and Deep Kumar. Winners of the Young Film Maker Award and Best Animation Award were presented by Yasmin Rasyid.
o The video concept is flexible but it must be related to energy efficiency in buildings.Extra points will be given for ANIMATION.
o Multiple submission is welcomed.
o The video will be at the minimum duration of 30s to the maximum duration of 3:00 minutes.
o Open to any citizenship with no age limit (participants under the age of 18 must obtain parental consent prior to the participation)
o Any video that are plagiarized or owned by a third party will be rejected from the competition.
o UNDP and JKR will have the shared ownership of the winning video(s) with the respective film maker.
